Current Research Projects

I am currently funded by the National Science Foundation (AGS1444384) in collaboration with colleagues at the University of South Florida to examine the electrical conductivity of volcanic ash, and how it may function as a charge carrier and ice nucleus in volcanic plumes, contributing to the generation of volcanic lightning.  I  was also recently awarded a CAREER grant (EAR1553878) to explore the effects of volcanic lightning on both natural and manufactured volcanic ash samples through a series of triggered lightning experiments.
