Alberto Perez-Huerta in Nature Communications study on dinosaur temperatures

A recent paper in Nature Communications describes results from a novel method to determine dinosaur body temperatures. Clumped isotope paleothermometry was applied to dinosaur eggshells to ascertain parent body temperatures during the period of egg formation. Alberto Perez-Huerta performed electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) analysis of the fossil eggshells to assess their level of preservation, which is necessary to interpret the isotope data. The EBSD analysis was conducted at Alabama’s Central Analytical Facility. The paper is garnering worldwide press attention, with stories in the Washington Post, Forbes, and Discovery News among many others.
